The Northern Coast near Tabarka and North Cap Bon has rocky shores with particularly spectacular under-water landscapes.
|
In Tabarka, one can observe species such as grouper that are rarely seen in the northern Mediterranean Sea; these large fish have become used to the presence of man and are a key attraction of the four diving clubs of the town.
Diving is growing throughout the country. It is controlled by the Federation of Underwater Activities of Tunisia (Fédération des activités Subaquatiques de Tunisie, or FAST), which is a member of the Underwater Activities World Confederation.

To ensure divers' safety, there are hyperbare caissons in Zarzis, in Tabarka and in Bizerte. However, in twenty years of activity, there have been no diving serious accidents. The FAST also presides over the annual Tabarka Coralis Festival, an international festival of marine life and underwater film and photography in early September.
